If you do, you’re not alone! Very often people with a visible difference get nervous or frightened because they worry too much about what other people will think of them. This can stop them going out and enjoying themselves.

This’ll give you an opportunity to see for yourself if you have problems worrying about what other people think of you.

Here are some statements about how worried you are about what other people think of you. Please rate each item using the scale below to indicate whether you have these worries.

A score of 8-17 shows that you don’t worry about others that much. You are not experiencing any difficulties, but the following pages may still provide you with useful hints and tips.

A score between 18-29 shows that you do worry about what other people think and do, but no more than many other people. The following pages could help you to feel more confident in social situations.

A score of 30 or over shows that you tend to worry too much about what other people think and do. In the following sessions you’ll learn to think and act more positively, which will help you feel more confident – then you’ll learn not to worry so much about what others think of you!
