As with the previous sessions you will now be given the opportunity to work through some examples. This time you’re going to see video clips of people in real life situations.
At each stage you will have a chance to choose how you would like the person in the film to behave. This is to help you understand the difference between positive and negative social skills.
There will be 3 different examples, and hopefully you’ll find that they’re like situations you’ve been in before. The examples will help show the best ways to respond in different social situations.
The Cafe
The teenagers
The interview
Congratulations on completing the social skills examples
Come back to the examples at any time and work through them again if you find them helpful.
It always takes time to change social skills, but with a bit of effort you’ll be amazed at the difference it can make.
Remember to practice these skills, start with easy situations that involve short conversations like going to the newsagents. You could even try practising with friends and family members first.
Congratulations on completing Session 3
Today we looked at:
- How the SCARED and REACH OUT models can help you use positive skills when you’re socialising.
- How to use body language and talking skills together to help make socialising more enjoyable.
- You did the ‘Worry about others’ Quiz to see for yourself if you have problems worrying about what other people think of you. You can do this quiz again at any time, and you’ll receive feedback just as you did today. Don’t worry if your score was quite high this time, with some practice you will be able to reduce it.
- Finally you looked at real examples of positive and negative social skills.
That’s the end of the session.
Next time we’ll be looking at how to use to the SMART tool to help you achieve your goals.
